That legacy endures, for the region has long been known as a haven for those inclined toward unconventional lifestyles and independent thought.

In contemporary times, Castlemaine is often regarded as a refuge for individuals of a more bohemian or "hippie" persuasion—those who value artistic expression, sustainability, and a certain distance from mainstream norms. Its residents, many of whom dwell amidst the surrounding bushland, are perceived to emerge from their secluded environs infrequently, often bearing views shaped by a deep scepticism of authority and institutional convention. This reputation, colourful though perhaps exaggerated, continues to distinguish Castlemaine from its more conventional neighbours, adding to its charm as a bastion of countercultural identity rooted in a rich and defiant past.

It was great to walk through the CBD streets and lanes again. The photowalk was therapeutic.

The Pastuso and Majorca buildings, located in the heart of Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD), are notable for their striking designs that blend modern aesthetics with historical influences. Pastuso, an iconic structure in the area, stands out with its bold and contemporary architectural features, often celebrated for its innovative use of space and design elements that cater to both commercial and residential purposes. Nearby, the Majorca building exudes an old-world charm with its classic Victorian-era architecture, showcasing Melbourne's rich heritage. Both buildings add to the architectural diversity of the CBD, serving as a testament to the city's evolving skyline, where the past and future coexist harmoniously.

Over the years I have dedicated myself to serving regional and remote areas of Victoria. Yet, I am continually taken aback by the prevailing attitude that my work does not warrant fair compensation. Every aspect of what I do entails considerable cost—be it the long hours spent driving, the expense of motel accommodation, the effort required to reach often inaccessible health facilities, or the challenges posed by poor communication. It is disheartening that such sacrifices are met with disregard. After all, this too is a matter of humanity.

My customary photo walk commences at Bourke Street Mall, proceeding through The Causeway, continuing along the Royal Collins Arcade, and onward to Degraves Place before concluding at Flinders Street. This route not only encapsulates the vibrant laneway culture but also offers an abundance of eateries, making it particularly well-suited for candid street and people photography.

It is worth noting that the signage along this path changes frequently, a consequence of the high rental demands characteristic of this area.

Today marks the final day of my assignment in remote Victoria. At last, I shall return home to find some much-needed rest. Joel, in the meantime, is cultivating a rather formidable beard, harbouring aspirations of becoming a lumberjack. I must admit, I am unaccustomed to his newly adopted, rugged appearance.

Matsumoto Castle, known as the "Crow Castle" for its striking black exterior, captivated me with its dramatic color and imposing beauty. The castle's design is truly remarkable, as it is built entirely of wood without the use of nails, a technique that highlights the skill and craftsmanship of its builders. Set against the serene backdrop of the Japanese Alps, the surrounding park adds to the castle’s allure, with its peaceful ponds and vibrant seasonal blooms. The combination of the castle's dark, bold presence and the tranquil park makes it an unforgettable sight.

Taiwan was under Japanese occupation for over fifty years, and as a result, much of what I observe in its streets and shops consists of direct franchises from Japan. Historically, one might expect the Taiwanese to harbor resentment toward Japan for its colonial rule over the island, particularly in light of the Sino-Japanese War, during which millions of Chinese lives were lost in a single day. Yet, paradoxically, the majority of the population today embraces Japanese popular culture with great enthusiasm, admiring everything from its cuisine and fashion to its history. In many respects, the island bears the unmistakable imprint of a Japanese state.

Strolling through a night vendor market is not particularly conducive to weight loss. However, I take great pleasure in wandering through such places, camera in hand, with my wide-angle lens capturing the lively atmosphere. To avoid the incessant nuisance of scam calls, I make use of a different SIM card while abroad.

Despite my travels overseas, Joel remains in regular contact with me via Signal. He appears rather enthusiastic about the prospect of starting his own podcast, though I sincerely hope he does not. His intensely private nature is well-founded, and only a true friend could engage with his perspectives without passing judgment.

Street photography serves as a sport for me, and as such, my frames often include various signs encountered along the way.

Additionally, I am planning an overnight trip to Shifen, a region renowned for its picturesque waterfall and vibrant night market. Kaminarimon Sign at Asakusa, Tokyo for Sign2

Asakusa is a bustling district in Taitō, Tokyo, known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant atmosphere. One of the most iconic landmarks in Asakusa is Sensō-ji, an ancient Buddhist temple and the oldest in Tokyo, dating back to 645 AD.

The entrance to Sensō-ji is marked by the imposing Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), a magnificent structure that serves as a grand portal into the temple grounds. The Kaminarimon gate features a gigantic red lantern with the kanji characters "雷門" (Kaminarimon) boldly inscribed on it, symbolizing thunder and lightning. Flanking the lantern are statues of the Shinto gods Fujin (god of wind) and Raijin (god of thunder), adding to the gate's awe-inspiring presence.

There were really simple snaps as I was carrying a lot of shopping for mum. So framing was a little off. 

Springvale, Melbourne, is a veritable melting pot of cultures. Traditionally, it has been one of the trios of renowned Asian street grocery regions, providing access to a plethora of Asian goods and produce. Remarkably, Springvale is one of the few suburbs that remains open during Easter weekend, Christmas, and indeed, every day of the year. However, the area is plagued by a dearth of parking facilities, an abundance of outdoor smokers, and the conspicuous presence of drug addicts loitering in the streets during broad daylight.

Upon Lismore's main thoroughfare, I find no place to stow my carriage.

This location, situated near China Town in Melbourne, is governed by a 'No Standing' sign, indicating that no vehicles, including bicycles, may be stationed here

The café in question is not situated in Segovia, but rather in Melbourne

De Graves Street possesses a distinctive ambiance. The indications are evident.

Upon the final day in Adelaide, we discovered a Thai establishment where we partook of spring rolls. Our endeavor to capture the beauty of Port Willunga proved unfruitful, for there were no parking spaces to be found.

A delectable Pork Knuckle adorned with a delectably crispy skin—one cannot miss such an exquisite dish, certainly not by mere accident.
